My grandmother was an amazing woman and I didn’t realize how amazing she was until she was taken from me.

She believed in me and she believed in the destiny that I had even if we didn’t agree on what my destiny was supposed to be. I didn’t want to be the one that was needed to be brave enough to save anyone, but she believed that I could do it.

I didn’t get to spend as much time with her as I wish I had. We only started getting closer shortly before the night she died. She seemed to understand me a lot better than my mother did – and a lot better than I understood myself.

She was inspiring and she was creative. She knew all about power even though she never told me if she had ever wielded it herself. She knew what to say and when to say it. She defied Black John to the very last moment of her life.

That will always be a prime example of bravery in my eyes.

Even as she was dying, she was pressing me about how much she believed that I could do what was needed to save the Circle and our town. She knew that she was running out of time and she used it to try to help me.

If anyone could ever expect more from any person, then I don’t want to know. I will always remember her as a deceptively strong woman and an amazing one at that.

I’m only sorry that she didn’t live long enough to see that we won. I think she would have been proud of all of us for finally standing together.

I think she would have been proud of me.

I hope she would have been proud of me.
